We are building a global, digital platform to promote and enable the practice of shopping locally. Today, Chinook Book helps people find and save money at the best local businesses and grocery stores in select U.S. cities. Our focus is on businesses that care about the local community and the environment. We want to change the world by using great technology to help people find the best, most environmental businesses in their community.

How we do it:
We connect people with local businesses, and we use the mechanism of a single-use mobile coupon to facilitate this relationship. We measure our success through the redemption of a mobile coupon: the business gets a new customer, and the person saves money on their purchase.

Chinook Book employees identify the best local businesses in the key geographic areas where we work -- currently San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis and Denver.  We collect information on each business and obtain a discount coupon from them, and this data is all loaded into a database which serves users through our mobile applications. We currently have over 3,500 business locations and over 150,000 users. Over the next few years we are seeking to significantly expand the number of businesses, the number of users and the usage by each individual user.


This position designs mobile and web graphics on an as needed basis in support of company’s marketing and communication efforts. Position will be freelance hourly on an as needed basis, with expected average weekly workload around 20 hrs/week.

The position requires high attention to detail and fast, efficient workflow executing multiple overlapping projects designed for use in digital display, social media and in app promotions. Some creative direction experience useful although primary projects will be implementing digital assets based on established style sheet and templates.

Main Duties

  • Update and implement graphics templates for digital promotion toolkits (40%)
    • Create digital promotion assets for community and merchant partners based on existing graphics templates
  • Create graphics in support of web and social marketing campaigns (15%)

    • Design & implement digital display ads and graphics

    • Infographics and whitepapers

    • Simple multi-media elements (gifs and slideshows)

  • Create email templates (10%)

  • Design graphic elements for mobile app (20%)

    • Inline mobile advertisements

    • Icons and background imagery

    • New screens in an existing app based on new needs

  • Other design projects as assigned (15%)

    • Visual design changes to admin platform and portal.

Requirements and Skills

  • Excellent prioritization and organization skills with high attention to detail
  • Clear, friendly solution oriented communication in English
  • Comfort with tight deadlines and prioritization
  • Minimum 3 years commercial graphic design experience in consumer space
  • Experience optimizing graphics for mobile and social campaigns preferred
  • Some experience with multi-media a plus
