Learn Something New This Fall!

Being an adult doesn’t mean you have to get rid of that beginner’s mind! This autumn and winter enroll in a class and challenge yourself to try something new. Wander out of your comfort zone and start a new hobby or build on an existing one! No one is too old to learn new things. Here are some hot ideas for the cold days ahead:

1. Learn It

Make your brain a more interesting place to be! Check with your local educational institutions to learn about auditing the classes of your dreams.

2. Do It

Want to stay active and healthy during the colder months, but want to stay inside? Indoor physical activities can help you avoid seasonal affective disorder and cabin fever. Peer-reviewed studies also show that exercise boosts the immune system and reduces your susceptibility to sickness. Stay active AND curious by trying new exercise options like yoga, pilates, or cycling. Hit the gym with these active class discounts!

3. Make It

Feel like your creative juices are flowing but you don’t know where to direct them? Sign up for classes at your local open art studios so you can learn how to use your favorite medium in the best and most fulfilling way. Stay creative and stay curious!

4. Guess It

Unfortunately sometimes our lives are so busy, we barely have social time to spend with the people we love most. The best way to consume a lot of knowledge in a short period of time, while spending quality time with your friends, is trivia! With just a little city scouting, you can find all sorts of trivia events and organizations, so it shouldn’t be too time-consuming to make a shortlist of local spots for maximum information sponging!

5. Cook It

Anyone can cook, all it takes is a little inspiration and guidance. That’s why the chilly months are the ideal time of year to experiment in the kitchen with a few cooking classes. Classes not only help with learning technique, but they can also jumpstart the inner Julia Child in each and every one of us.

6. Read It

If you need something that better fits your busy schedule, satisfying your appetite for learning can be as easy as picking up a book and reading! But here’s our challenge to you: when you’re at the bookstore, choose a topic that you don’t know much about. Interested in learning about how trees communicate with each other or how feathers work? Scoot on over to your local library or bookstore and browse the seemingly endless options for something that really stands out to you.

September is back to school month but some of us who have been out of academia for years might find ourselves yearnin’ for some learnin’. Reading books, taking classes, and even going back to school are great ways to remain productive and warm during the cold months, and even better ways to stay in-tune with the ever-changing world.
