Forth is a clean transportation advocacy organization based in Portland whose mission is to advance electric, shared, and smart mobility. They bring clean transportation options to communities, provide electric mobility education to the public, advocate for policy that supports electric car drivers, and support industry development (did you know the U.S.’s largest electric and smart mobility conference is held in Portland each June?). They were instrumental in the passing of Oregon’s first electric car rebate, which gives buyers up to $5,000 back, and in 2017 they opened the Go Forth Electric Showcase, the first of its kind in the nation.
The Go Forth Electric Showcase is a cross between a science museum and a car dealership—or you could call it an electric car education center. Located in downtown Portland, nearly 4,000 people have walked through their doors, and they’ve helped over a thousand people test drive an electric car. The Showcase is the place to to get all of your questions answered about electric cars, bikes, and other electric vehicles—plus how and where to charge. Forth is not selling anything—just education!
At the Go Forth Electric Showcase visitors can test charging equipment, take their fleet of electric and plug-in hybrid cars for test drives, and chat with Forth’s friendly, brand-neutral staff about what it means to switch from a gas-powered car to an electric car. You can schedule a test drive on their website, or just walk in! In their fleet is a 2014 Nissan Leaf S, a 2017 Ford CMAX Energi, a 2017 Chevy Bolt, a 2017 Chevy Volt, and a 2017 Honda Clarity Electric. Plus, they even have a Drive Finder tool that will help find the perfect plug-in car for you!
For folks who have already decided to go electric, but need a deeper dive, Forth has got you covered too. They can help you understand state and federal rebates and tax credits, and which car manufacturers can offer the full tax credit amount. They can also help you explore the advantages of buying a used electric car, and talk about different models you will see on the market.
They can speak with you in depth about your specific needs—how long is your commute? Do you live in a house, apartment, or HOA? How much will your electric bill change? (Hint: not too much). How will you find charging stations when you’re on the road—and do you want to belong to a charging network?
Forth staff can talk about the changing landscape of the electric car market and which models will be coming out soon with new features and increased ranges. And when you are ready to go to the dealership, they can help you out with recommendations and make sure you feel confident going in!
Forth understands it might be daunting to think about going electric, so head over the Go Forth Electric Showcase, on the corner of SW 1st and Taylor in downtown Portland, and they’ll answer all of your questions!
