Bike Works promotes the bicycle as a vehicle for change to empower youth and build resilient communities. Since 1996 they’ve worked to educate and empower youth, and make bicycling accessible and affordable to the Seattle community. In 2018, they processed 6,993 used bike donations (that’s over 244,755 pounds diverted from the waste stream), and got them back on the road through their adult & youth mechanics classes, bike giveaways, sales in their shop, and re-donated to their nonprofit community partners. They served over 1,500 youth through their bicycle ridership, ownership, and leadership programs, and over 1,000 adults through their bicycle giveaways and mechanics courses. At Bike Works, they believe that Two Wheels means Endless Possibilities.
This event is a chance for Bike Works supporters new and old to come together for an intimate dinner to hear from some of their inspiring youth speakers about how learning to ride and work on bikes helped them gain confidence, develop leadership skills, and collaborate with others. There will be plenty of time to mingle with Bike Works staff, board, and supporters, and to attend a special graduation ceremony for students completing FareStart’s culinary job training program.
This dinner raises vital funding for Bike Works, which is why they suggest a minimum donation of $250 per guest. By coming together on this special night, we harness our collective power with other cycling enthusiasts, environmentalists, and youth empowerment leaders to support Bike Works’ mission.
