Get up and move with King County Parks when they kick-off the summer with one of their favorite family friendly events—the Big Backyard 5K presented by Kaiser Permanente on Sunday, June 2 at King County’s Marymoor Park. This year they are celebrating their 10th annual event, which has raised funds to support the maintenance and operations of the parks and trails in King County since 2010.
They are so excited to celebrate this milestone that they are adding a 10K distance option to their tenth event! Participants can now choose between running or walking the 5K or running the 10K. Additionally, every participant that crosses the finish line on June 2nd will receive a special commemorative ten year BBY5K finisher medal. As always, they will have their beautiful chip-timed courses for each distance that will wind through Marymoor Park and its surroundings; their soft and comfy race apparel and collectible referral mugs; and their awards ceremonies and post-race celebration.
Got a kiddo that is age 10 years or under who loves to run? Sign them up in-person on race day for their free Kids Dash presented by Parent Map. Participants will follow (or zoom past) King County's Marta the River Otter to the finish line in this very popular and fun ¼-mile loop!
Team up with your family, friends and running buddies! Race trackers will take the combined time of your fastest five finishers to calculate your team awards. Sign-up as many runners as you want to improve your odds of winning. Fastest teams in each distance will be announced during the award ceremonies.
King County loves four-legged participants! Team up with your dog and they will award the first dog owner and their dog across the finish line in both the 5K and 10K distances with a prize!
The BBY5K is a fun event for the whole family, and it’s dog and stroller friendly. Hang out before the race, join in a pre-race warm up, and don’t forget to check out the great offerings that the amazing event sponsors and vendors will have to provide during the post-race festivities.
Individuals, kids, groups, and teams can still sign-up online through the end of the month (May 30) and in-person on race weekend (June 1-2). Participants will receive a super soft t-shirt, commemorative finisher medal, refreshments, a chance to win prizes, and the satisfaction of supporting one of your favorite regional park agencies…King County Parks!
They’d like to give a big shout out and thanks to their 2019 event sponsors—Kaiser Permanente Washington, Harborstone Credit Union, and Super Jock n’ Jill.
Whether you walked or ran the last nine races, or this is your first time doing the BBY5K, King County Parks is excited to see you at the park. So lace up your sneakers and join them at Marymoor Park for the BBY5K (or 10K)!
