Move over, winter. Springtime is here! Finally, the winter months have passed and it's time to begin looking forward to summer! Even the most active people can fall out of their routine, but with the emergence of the warmer months, it’s the perfect time to take advantage of the many opportunities to move toward a sustainable and healthy lifestyle. Not sure where to start? Here are some tips to help you get going this spring!
Start a New Fitness Routine
Try something new! If you’re used to High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), test the waters with a weight training program. If you are working on moving away from a sedentary lifestyle, try a Zumba class. Looking to break into the active world? Start with a 20-minute walk each day. There are many fitness outlets that allow us to explore different levels of fitness—what better way to welcome in a new season than by testing the waters with a new fitness regime?
It’s important to have the right equipment to use during exercise. Treat yourself for working toward a more active lifestyle with a new pair of running shoes, a new hiking backpack, or invest in a new camera for all your new adventures!
If running is not your jam, that’s alright! There’s a wide range of activities that you can use to work toward your fitness goals. Try biking, swimming, rollerblading, ice skating, or dancing—most local universities offer introductory fitness courses you can attend. You can even begin your own customized fitness regime by searching for active videos on YouTube or Facebook! There are so many outlets and resources available to find something that works best for you.
Explore Local Trails
Our world is full of gorgeous trails. If you have never gotten out on the trails before, now is a great time to start! Lucky for us, we live in a high tech world that allows us to locate the best trails quickly and easily. Apps such as AllTrails, MapMyHike, and GPS Tracks allow us to see the intensity of the hike or trail, understand the type of terrain and how long it will take. Grab a friend or two, pack your nutrition and hydration pack, and hit the trails this spring!
Set a Goal with a Friend
Goals are best achieved with a strong support system behind you. Recruit a friend or family member to work toward a goal for the end of the summer. By starting now, you can actively track your progress through photos, activity levels or counting down the pounds. Whatever your goal may be, set a goal that you are passionate about so that you wake up each day excited to make progress!
This can be a great starting point for you and for the lifestyle change you are working so hard to achieve. There are also so many resources that can help you achieve your goals! Don’t have something to train for? Well, you’re in luck! One of our favorite events to train for is The Great Inflatable Race!
Bounce Your Way to Family Fun
The Great Inflatable Race is the first and the original all-inflatable fun run established in 2012. Their mission is movement. They believe that people coming together in their communities to have fun and support a common goal can empower them to pursue positive social change within those communities. Their races are not about winning—they’re about joining, getting out, and getting active. When you join The Great Inflatable Race, you are joining a movement that ignites a passion for health and for the community. This is the perfect event to bring your friends, family, or coworkers! This is also an excellent example of a goal to work toward. Grab your friends, set some goals, and join them for their Tacoma, WA race May 18th or Seattle race on July 27th!
Hop to it!
