Celebrate the magic of the holiday season at Swansons Nursery! Reindeer Festival runs November 9th to December 24th, with lots of fun activities and shopping for the whole family. Swansons Nursery will be all decked out for the season with beautiful lights and lots of festive decorations. Check out their decorated holiday yurt (a great spot for fun photo-ops), browse their incredible selection of holiday décor and gifts, and make sure to save time for hot cocoa in their cozy café and a professional Santa photo (make an appointment here). Their holiday model train village has a different theme each year and is always a kid-pleaser.
Swansons will also have special visitors like the Seattle Humane Society’s MaxMobile mobile adoption bus and live musical concerts. And since it’s Reindeer Festival, you can meet Dasher and Biltzen, two of Santa’s reindeer! Learn about these majestic animals during their “Meet the Reindeer” sessions daily. Kids will also love the Holiday Adventure Tour, a self-guided tour of fun spots in the nursery, like the reindeer, the koi pond, and Swansons’ Christmas tree shaker.
Speaking of trees, beginning November 23rd, they will have a large selection of Christmas trees grown on local, family-owned farms. Trees range in size from tabletop (3’-4’) to giant 10’ specimens. They are suspended indoors for easy viewing (Swansons calls it their Spin and Pick system) and a dry shopping experience. Swansons also carries living, potted trees that can be planted after the holiday season (see below for some great care tips).
Swansons is there to help you every step of the tree-buying process, from choosing the right tree, to shaking, wrapping, and tying the tree to your car (or delivering it if driving it home just isn’t for you). You can even reserve a tree from the comfort of your home on social media using #heyswansons! Just let Swansons know what you’re looking for and they’ll find your perfect tree and have it waiting for you. If you don’t love it, they’ll help you find something you do love.
Not sure what type of tree you’re looking for this year? Check out Swansons’ Pick the Perfect Tree for all the info about the different varieties they carry, the local family farms that grow their trees, and how you can reserve your tree on social media!
Swansons wants your tree to stay lovely all season long so here are their tips to help you care for your tree, whether you pick a cut tree or a living, potted Christmas tree.
Cut Christmas Tree Care
Swansons’ trees are freshly cut right before each customer leaves the store and they advise putting your tree into water within 90 minutes. If you can’t make it home that quickly, you can make a fresh cut before putting your tree in water.
Keep the water basin of your tree stand filled daily, never letting the water level drop below the tree’s cut end.
Note: Fresh trees sometimes wait up to 2-3 days to start taking up water, so don't be alarmed if your tree doesn't "drink" right away!
Keep your cut tree away from direct heat sources such as heat vents and fireplaces.
Living Christmas Tree Care
Living Christmas trees are a great option for those that want to plant the tree after the holidays. However, if you are planning to plant them after the holiday season, living trees should not be kept inside for more than 5-7 days. If you would prefer a tree in your house over a long period of time, a cut tree may be a better option.
Water the tree well by soaking the entire root ball before bringing it inside. This may require that you water it multiple times in a row to be sure the water has soaked all the way through and not just wet the surface.
Check the moisture level daily and water as needed, keeping the tree evenly moist but not soaking wet.
Do not let the tree sit in water.
Keep your home as cool as possible and avoid placing the tree near heat vents and fireplaces.
Happy Holidays from Swansons Nursery!
