Recently released Local Impact Study by Civic Economics concludes 52 cents of every dollar that is spent at Central Co-op stays within the State of Washington compared to conventional grocery chains, which recirculate only 23 cents of every dollar. Per square foot, that circulation figure rises to 7 times more!
Two major ways that the Co-op achieves this is by:
Hiring full time employees on living wage principles
Commitment to sourcing from local producers and suppliers whenever possible
This impact reflects just one of many reasons Central Co-op won the Chinook Book Heart of Seattle Award in January.
